Call to Order
Ms. Watson called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon.
The draft minutes from the September 20, 2017, meeting were previously posted and circulated to Council. The minutes were approved as submitted.
Ms. Chambers reviewed the agenda items:
Ms. Chambers reviewed the most recent statement available (through September 30, 2017.) A copy was attached to the Council meeting agenda.
2017 Executive Program Update
Ms. Chambers reported that so far 131 people are registered to attend the 2017 Executive Program to be held from November 30, 2017 – December 2, 2017, at the Charlottesville Omni. She reviewed the program agenda which she had attached to the Council meeting agenda. Mr. Caldwell reminded everyone that CASC will provide reimbursement of all expenses at state per diem rates. He encouraged members to make sure that their office Reimbursement Coordinator had been in touch with CASC staff.
Richmond Office & Meeting Space Rental Update
Ms. Chambers reported that she has continued to work with the Dept. of General Services (DGS) to secure office and meeting space in Richmond. At their request she provided a sample draft schedule for the year to demonstrate that the space will be regularly utilized. She is now waiting for DGS to put the request out for bid. Ms. Chambers stated that her goal is to have arrangements in place by July 1, 2018.
CASC App Update
Ms. Chambers reported that staff attorney Elliott Casey is continuing to work with Capitol Impact on the CASC app. CASC hopes to have it available for demonstration at the Executive Program. Ms. Chambers provided information on how CASC intends to provide security for CASC written materials.
CASC Training Programs in Development
Ms. Chambers reported that staff attorney Nancy Oglesby is working on developing 3 new programs: Prosecutor Boot Camp, Advanced Domestic Violence Prosecution and Child Abuse Prosecution. The latter two programs will probably be designed for prosecutor/law enforcement teams. Ms. Chambers also reported that John Bowers, one of CASC’s Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors, will be working on two new programs: Vehicular Homicide Prosecution and Prosecuting CDL Violations.
CASC Appellate Review Podcast
Ms. Chambers reminded members that staff attorney Elliott Casey is producing a monthly podcast in which he details the most significant recent appellate cases. A link is provided each week in CASC’s Weekly Update. She encouraged everyone to listen to the 30 minute podcasts. Mr. Rehak pointed out that Mr. Casey often includes short interviews at the conclusion of the podcasts.
There being no further business before Council, the meeting adjourned at 12:16 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is November 30, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the Charlottesville Omni Hotel.
