SUMMARY:Investigation and Prosecution of Intimate Partner Violence ("Guns and Roses")
DESCRIPTION:CASC is offering an intensive 6-day training for Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement on investigating and prosecuting intimate partner violence. This course will cover IPV dynamics\, investigation and prosecution strategies\, strangulation\, prosecuting cases with uncooperative victims\, forfeiture by wrongdoing and more. \nThe program is free and will be held in Staunton. Lodging and parking will be provided\, and meals will be reimbursed at state per diem rates. Mileage is NOT covered and will be the attendee’s responsibility. \nSpace is limited to 15 teams. Teams are to be comprised of one prosecutor and one investigator from the same jurisdiction. \nACCEPTANCE IS BY APPLICATION ONLY. SUMMARY:Advanced Trial Advocacy Program
DESCRIPTION:The Advanced Trial Advocacy Program is an intensive three-day program offered for prosecutors who have some jury trial experience.  This program will provide approximately 12 CLE hours. Instead of a case study being provided to students\, attendees will each bring one of their own cases to work from throughout the program.  Lectures will cover analytical advocacy and theory bases prosecution as well as all phases of a jury trial from voir dire to closing argument and preserving the record   There will be small group case discussions and student performances. \nThis program will be held in Norfolk.  Attendance is limited to 30 students. No application is necessary.  Lodging is provided and all meals are provided or reimbursed at the state per diem rate. SUMMARY:I.M.P.A.C.T.\, Training for the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Prosecutor: Initiating Meaningful Prosecution at Critical Times
DESCRIPTION:IMPACT is an intensive training for the J&DR prosecutor. The program focuses on juvenile court practice & procedure and dealing with juvenile delinquency.   Specific topics to be covered include juvenile brain development\, juvenile trials & sentencing options\, DJJ length of stay guidelines\, substance abuse and juveniles\, transfer/certification issues\, juvenile sex-offenders and competency issues. \nThe program will be held in Staunton.  Lodging will be provided for attendees whose offices are more than twenty-five miles from the training venue.  Meals will be provided or reimbursed at state per diem rate\, but mileage to and from the program is not covered. \nOnce you’ve registered\, you will receive a confirmation email. This training is limited to 25 students who will be accepted on a first come\, first served basis\, with preference for one attendee per jurisdiction. Multiple attendees from the same jurisdiction will be considered if space is available.
