DESCRIPTION:CASC is pleased to present the next webinar in our 2025 webinar series: “Defending Constitutional Challenges to Statutes“. \nThis session will cover facial and as-applied challenges to statutes and the challenges to statutes grounded in particular constitutional amendments\, notably First and Second Amendment challenges. We will examine case examples and offer suggestions on how to defend against these now more common challenges. \nThe webinar will take place on Thursday\, August 21\, 2025\, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. \nVirginia prosecutors and non-attorney staff within Virginia’s Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Offices are welcome to register. \nCASC will endeavor to record this training and put the recording on Prosecutor’s Encyclopedia as well for future reference. \nYou must register by August 20\, 2025.  Click here to register.

SUMMARY:Advanced DUI Training for Law Enforcement and Prosecutors - Staunton
DESCRIPTION:The Advanced DUI Training Program is an intensive course designed specifically for Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement officers and will be held in Staunton on August 25 – 28\, 2025. The program will cover a range of critical topics\, including investigative stops\, Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) and Preliminary Breath Testing (PBT)\, breath and blood testing issues\, DUI checkpoints\, and the use of transcripts and legal code sections to prove elements in court. Additionally\, the program will address key issues in manslaughter cases and provide opportunities to analyze factual scenarios. Participants will receive the latest edition of the Virginia DUI Manual. \nThis training follows a team-based format\, ideally requiring a team consisting of one prosecutor and one law enforcement officer from the same jurisdiction. However\, individuals may still enroll if they are unable to form a team. The program is limited to 50 attendees (40 with lodging accommodations and 10 commuting attendees). Lodging and meals will be provided for participants who reside more than 25 miles from the training site\, and lunch will be provided for commuting attendees. Please note that no mileage reimbursement will be offered. \nRegistration does not guarantee acceptance into the program.\nConfirmation of selection will be sent by email by June 1\, 2025. \nPlease contact Paula Bruns at pmbruns@wm.edu or 757-775-2799 with any questions. \nClick here to register.
