SUMMARY:Sound of Silence (Child Abuse)
DESCRIPTION:CASC is offering an intensive 6-day training for 10 prosecutor/law enforcement/cps teams on investigating and prosecuting child abuse. This course will cover child disclosure issues\, investigation and prosecution strategies\, working as an MDT\, identifying abusive injuries\, vicarious trauma and more. \nThe program is free. Lodging is provided for attendees whose office is twenty-five miles or more from the training site in Staunton\, VA. Meals and parking will be provided for all attendees. Mileage is NOT covered and will be the attendee’s responsibility. \nSpace is limited to 10 teams comprised of one prosecutor\, one investigator and one child protective services worker from the same jurisdiction. \nACCEPTANCE IS BY APPLICATION ONLY. DESCRIPTION:CASC again is offering Trauma to Trial\, our 6-day course on the topic of investigating and prosecuting adult non-stranger sexual assaults. The training is open to 12 prosecutor/law enforcement teams. \nThe program is free. Lodging for attendees whose offices are more than twenty-five miles from the training site will be provided. Meals and parking will be provided to all attendees. Mileage is NOT covered and will be the attendee’s responsibility. \nSpace is limited to 12 teams comprised of a prosecutor and a law enforcement officer from the same jurisdiction. SUMMARY:Red Flag 2026: Ring of Fire: Arson Prosecutions Program
DESCRIPTION:CASC’s Arson Investigation & Prosecution program is focused on all aspects of arson cases\, including forensics\, expert testimony\, and legal aspects\, and is focused on arson as a tool of fraud. This program combines prosecutors\, Virginia State Police/BCI investigators\, insurance company fraud investigators\, and Virginia law enforcement investigators for a week of team training which includes ATF arson specialists and a “live burn” where students will witness and then examine a crime scene. \nLodging will be provided for attendees whose office is twenty-five miles (25) or more from the training venue. Meals for government employees will be reimbursed at state per diem rate. Mileage is NOT covered and will be the attendee’s responsibility. The program begins at noon on Monday\, October 5\, and ends at noon on Friday\, October 9\, 2026. \nThis program is a rotating program with other topics involving insurance fraud. Some\, but not all\, sessions will be repeated from previous “Red Flag” insurance fraud trainings. DESCRIPTION:CASC is excited to share a new free training for Virginia prosecutors and Virginia law enforcement officers\, “Prosecutor Civil Practice: Advanced Asset Forfeiture & Civil Process in ESRO\, Sealing\, and Expungement Cases.” This advanced program is intended for prosecutors who litigate asset forfeiture cases\, emergency substantial risk order (ESRO) cases\, and engage in litigation regarding sealing and expungement. \nPlease note that this class is intended as advanced training for lawyers with experience in these matters. CASC offers and will continue to offer basic and introductory training in asset forfeiture cases\, emergency substantial risk order (ESRO) cases\, and sealing and expungement in the future. \nThis two-day training will take place Thursday\, October 29\, 2026\, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.\, at CASC’s Training Facility in downtown Richmond. \nThis training is sponsored by the Virginia Criminal Justice Foundation. DESCRIPTION:The Advanced Trial Advocacy Program is an intensive three-day program offered for prosecutors who have some jury trial experience. This program will provide approximately 12 CLE hours. Instead of a case study being provided to students\, attendees will each bring one of their own cases to work from throughout the program. Lectures will cover analytical advocacy and theory bases prosecution as well as all phases of a jury trial from voir dire to closing argument and preserving the record There will be small group case discussions and student performances. \nThis program will be held in Virginia Beach. Attendance is limited to 30 students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and dinner will be reimbursed per CASC policy.
