DESCRIPTION:This is a two-day training focused on technology-facilitated crimes against children. SUMMARY:Red Flag Program: Money Talks – Financial Literacy and Fraud Investigations
DESCRIPTION:CASC is proud to announce that registration is open for a new\, intensive 3-day training for prosecutors\, Virginia State Police Special Agents\, and Insurance SIU investigators on the topic of investigating and prosecuting fraud in Virginia. This program is funded by Virginia State Police as its annual “Red Flag” insurance fraud training\, which focuses on different aspects of fraud each year. This year\, the program will focus on obtaining and using financial records in financial and fraud investigations and will cover financial investigations\, obtaining and using financial records\, financial interviews and interrogations\, building financial cases\, and working with prosecutors. Some\, but not all\, sessions will be repeated from previous “Red Flag” insurance fraud trainings. \nThe program is free. Lodging for attendees whose offices are more than twenty-five miles from the training site and parking will be provided and meals will be reimbursed at state per diem rates. SUMMARY:Trial Advocacy Program
DESCRIPTION:The Trial Advocacy Program is an intensive five-day program offered for Commonwealth’s Attorneys and their Assistants at all levels of experience\, offering approximately 25 CLE hours. Attendees spend approximately 8 hours at lectures and demonstrations given by prosecutors and physicians covering medical\, legal and tactical aspects of the prosecution of child abusers\, focusing on abusive head trauma cases. The remaining time is spent in small workshop groups discussing and practicing case analysis\, trial strategy\, opening statements\, direct examination\, cross-examination and closing argument in the context of a hypothetical abusive head trauma case. Attendees will be assigned to workshop groups. Wednesday afternoon is free time. Attendance at all sessions of the program is mandatory.  \nAttendance is limited to 40 students. ACCEPTANCE IS BY APPLICATION ONLY. Upon completion of the online registration\, you will receive a confirmation email containing a link to the application. DESCRIPTION:Topics to be covered include presentations by law enforcement as to the Drug Categories\, spectrum of physiological responses from the drug categories\, aspects of expert testimony\, blood draws\, information from Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) and their role\, discussions of responding to defense arguments in DUID cases\, court demonstrations and more! The latest version of the Virginia DUI Manual will be distributed to participants. This training program utilizes a team-training format ideally consisting of a prosecutor and a law enforcement officer from the same jurisdiction. Though\, the team is not required if a person would like to enroll and is unable to have a team member attend. \n\n\nLodging and meals will be covered (provided or reimbursed at state per diem rate) for those whose office is more than twenty-five (25) miles from the training venue in Blacksburg. Lunches will be provided for commuting attendees. SUMMARY:Fury Road: Investigating and Prosecuting Impaired Fatal Crashes
DESCRIPTION:The Fury Road Program is an intensive two-day training for Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement officers\, scheduled to take place in Staunton from June 23 to 25\, 2025. It will cover crash scene evidence collection\, crash reconstruction\, charging decisions\, dealing with legal defenses\, case scenarios\, victim outreach\, and more! Participants will receive the latest version of the Virginia DUI Manual. \nThis training follows a team-based format\, ideally requiring a team consisting of a prosecutor and a law enforcement officer from the same jurisdiction.  It’s designed for law enforcement officers who are either Virginia State Troopers handling impaired driving cases or a local law enforcement officer who is on a crash response team or regularly involved in investigating fatal motor vehicle crashes. Attendance at all sessions of the program is mandatory. \nRegistration does not guarantee acceptance into the program. This program covers the latest developments in the law\, the criminal practices used\, an exercise in qualifying as a gang expert and the latest developments in gang investigation and prosecution. \nThis five-day training will be held in Williamsburg and is open to Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement. Attendance is limited to 20 teams\, each of which consists of a prosecutor and a law enforcement investigator from a given jurisdiction. Attendance at all sessions of the program is mandatory. \nACCEPTANCE IS BY APPLICATION ONLY.
