SUMMARY:DUID Training for Law Enforcement and Prosecutors - North Chesterfield
DESCRIPTION:Topics to be covered include presentations by law enforcement as to the Drug Categories\, spectrum of physiological responses from the drug categories\, aspects of expert testimony\, blood draws\, information from Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) and their role\, discussions of responding to defense arguments in DUID cases\, court demonstrations and more! The latest version of the Virginia DUI Manual will be distributed to participants. This training program utilizes a team-training format ideally consisting of a prosecutor and a law enforcement officer from the same jurisdiction. Though\, the team is not required if a person would like to enroll and is unable to have a team member attend. \n\n\nLodging and meals will be covered (provided or reimbursed at state per diem rate) for those whose office is more than twenty-five (25) miles from the training venue in North Chesterfield. Lunches will be provided for commuting attendees. No mileage reimbursement will be provided. \nRegistration does not guarantee acceptance to the program. SUMMARY:Investigation and Prosecution of Drug Cases ("TOP GUN XXXI")
DESCRIPTION:TOP GUN is an intensive\, workshop-style\, interactive training course on the prosecution of drug cases\, one of CASC’s longest running programs having been offered since 1992\, now in its 31st year! Attendance is limited to 20 teams\, consisting of a prosecutor and a law enforcement investigator from the same jurisdiction. This program covers the latest developments in the law\, the criminal practices used\, and the latest illegal drug types and their usage. \nHeld in Williamsburg\, VA\, this five-day training program begins Sunday\, May 18 at 1:00 pm and ends Friday\, May 23 at noon. \nThere is no tuition and lodging will be provided\, if your office is more than twenty-five miles from the training site. All meals are either provided or reimbursed at state per diem rate. Mileage to and from the program is not covered. \nACCEPTANCE IS BY APPLICATION ONLY. DESCRIPTION:This program will cover everything you need to know about the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) program\, including an introduction to the DRE evaluation\, an in-depth discussion of the seven (7) drug categories\, how to qualify your DRE as an expert witness\, and more. This training is open to Virginia prosecutors only. MCLE credits are pending. \nThe training is in Richmond on Tuesday\, May 27\, 2025 at 10:00 am to Wednesday\, May 28\, 2025 at 4:00 pm. \nLodging is provided to students whose office is more than 25 miles from the training venue and meals will be provided or reimbursed at state per diem rate to all attendees.
