DUID for Law Enforcement and Prosecutors Training – Eastern Shore
February 1, 2027 - February 2, 2027
This 2-day course is designed specifically for Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement officers handling impaired driving cases where the driver is impaired by drug(s). Topics include extended training about the Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), illegal drugs, marijuana, prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and other impairing substances. The training includes a range of topics including the drug categories, discussions about potential physiological responses, Toxicologists and The Division of Forensic Science, aspects of expert testimony, blood draws, information from Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) and their role, discussions of responding to defense arguments in DUID cases, court demonstrations and more.
This training follows a team-based format, ideally admitting a team consisting of a prosecutor(s) and law enforcement officer(s) from the same jurisdiction. This team can consist of a prosecutor, or several prosecutors from the same office, along with multiple law enforcement officers from that jurisdiction. Individuals may still enroll if they are unable to form a team. The program is limited to 50 attendees. Prosecutors and law enforcement working in the Eastern Shore will have priority registration.
Training is currently scheduled for February 1 – 2, 2027 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day.
Participants will receive a training binder and the newly updated 2026 edition of the Virginia DUI Manual, at no cost to the attendee.
There is no registration fee for this training. Lodging and meals will be paid by CASC pursuant to the TSRP Impaired Driving Federal Grant. Lodging, at, or below, the federal per diem rate is available for attendees who reside twenty-five (25) miles or more from the training site.
Lunch will be provided to all attendees both days. Meal reimbursement will be provided to those with overnight accommodations at the established per diem rate. Attendees will not have time to leave the training site for lunch. Please note we cannot reimburse mileage or tolls.
