Chairman’s Report

None.

Administrator’s Report

Ms. Chambers reported that everyone at CASC is healthy and that the entire staff continues to telework.  She reviewed the agenda items:

Old Business

CATF Update

Ms. Chambers reviewed the CATF balance sheet reflecting account activity through April 30, 2020, which shows significant improvement over the previous month.  The account balance reflects a net loss for 2020 of just over $100,000.

Richmond Training/Office Space Update

Ms. Chambers reported that the new training and meeting space has passed it’s final inspection.  She and her staff have conducted a walk through and a punch list was created.  Furniture has been ordered and is expected to be delivered sometime mid to late June.   CASC looks forward to having an improved ability to provide online and smaller in-person training programs.

Summer Conference Training Update

Ms. Chambers circulated a draft of the summer conference training agenda with this meeting agenda.  She reported on current registration numbers and accommodations that The Homestead is willing to make to address COVID-19 concerns.  She also discussed changes that will be made to the CASC on-site registration process to address staff social distancing concerns.  Finally, Ms. Chambers reported that there are no confirmed vendors at this point, but she has fielded some inquiries.

New Business

New CASC Website

Ms. Chambers reported that CASC is completing a revamp of its website and plans the rollout for later this week.  It should be more user-friendly.  Larry Martin has worked very hard on getting all information and links updated and current.

CASC Online Webinar Schedule

CASC staff continues to put together online training programs in lieu of its normal programming.  Ms. Chambers reviewed the webinars currently planned.

CASC 2020 Appellate and Legislative Update for Law Enforcement

Ms. Chambers reported she and Mr. Casey have been working hard on this year’s legal update for law enforcement.  She anticipates having the handouts and PowerPoint presentations completed by the end of the week.  Once they are completed, they will be sent to DCJS for review and posting on their website.  CASC also will post them on our new website.

CASC Lecturer of Merit Awards

Ms. Chambers reported that because of the current situation, she does not have a list of candidates for the Lecturer of Merit Awards this year.  CASC still will continue to look at the possibility of selecting recipients this year.

Curriculum Retreat Status

Ms. Chambers reported that this year’s Curriculum Retreat is scheduled for Sept. 2 -3, 2020.  The plan is to hold it at Berry Hill again, although no contract has been signed at this point.

Phone Attendees

Ms. Chambers reminded people attending this meeting by phone to please send her an email confirming their participation.

Adjournment

There being no further business before Council, the meeting adjourned at 12:21 p.m.  The next regularly scheduled meeting is on July 26, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at The Homestead.
