DUID: High Crimes and Misdemeanors for Law Enforcement and Prosecutors Training – Eastern Shore

November 20 - November 21

This 1 1/2-day course is designed specifically for Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement officers handling impaired driving cases where the driver is impaired by drug(s). Topics include illegal drugs, marijuana, prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and other impairing substances. The training includes a range of topics including the drug categories and their spectrum of potential physiological responses, aspects of expert testimony, blood draws, information from Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) and their role, discussions of responding to defense arguments in DUID cases, court demonstrations and more. Participants will receive a training binder and the newly updated 2025 edition of the Virginia DUI Manual.

This training follows a team-based format, ideally admitting a team consisting of one prosecutor and one law enforcement officer from the same jurisdiction. Groups can also be admitted comprised of a prosecutor(s) and a law enforcement officer(s). However, individuals may still enroll if they are unable to form a team. The program is limited to 50 attendees—40 with lodging accommodations and 10 commuting attendees. Prosecutors and law enforcement working in the Eastern Shore will have priority registration.

There is no registration fee for this training. Lodging will be provided for participants whose office is twenty-five (25) miles or more from the training site. Lunch will be provided for all attendees both days. Meal reimbursement will be provided for those with overnight accommodations at the established per diem rate. Attendees will not have time to leave the training site for lunch. Please note we cannot reimburse mileage or tolls.

Training is scheduled to be held 11/20/25 11:00 a.m. – 11/21/25 4:00 p.m., but these times may change slightly. The full agenda will also be sent in early November.

This program is for Virginia prosecutors and law enforcement officers only.
