Call to Order
Mr. Doucette called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.  He deferred to Mr. Harris to announce the CASC 35th birthday cake.

Minutes
The draft minutes from the June 12, 2013, meeting were previously posted and circulated to Council.  The minutes were approved as submitted.

Administrator’s Report
Mr. Harris reviewed the agenda items:

Old Business

VACA Annual Summer Conference/CASC Training 
Mr. Harris welcomed everyone to the 74th annual summer conference.  He reported that 336  attorneys registered for the program.  He reviewed the training agenda.

 

 

Case Management Vendors and Friday presentation
Mr. Harris reported the names of all the vendors and their exhibit locations.  The 4 case management vendors will have an equal opportunity to present their software on Friday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Status update on VCAIS domain servers
Mr. Whetstone announced that effective Monday, August 5, 2013, the Virginia Beach server will come down.  This should not impact others because each site has its own independent server.  Virginia Beach will giving us CASC the old server.

New Business

CASC Curriculum Committee Retreat:  September 5 – 6, 2013 (Charlottesville) – Mr. Harris described the purpose of the retreat and asked that ideas for topics or trainers to be sent to him.  Mr. Doucette warned everyone about potential traffic issues related to a music festival outside Charlottesville.

Upcoming CASC Training Programs:  Mr. Harris referred to the list on page 2 of agenda.  He announced that iPad training now has funding.  He described the Red Flag program and encouraged attorneys to attend.  He also envisions a one-day asset forfeiture training for those who do not do asset forfeiture now.  He would suggest prosecutor, administrator & law enforcement officer teams.  It will be sometime in the fall.  Mr. Harris also wants to bring back the Homicide Program, maybe in fall or spring.  He suggested that it be a three day program for prosecutors only.

2014 Executive Program site to be determined:  Mr. Doucette reported that the 2013 Executive Program will be at the Hotel Roanoke.  Mr. Morrogh moved that the 2014 Executive Program be located in Staunton.  Ms. Ziglar suggested Charlottesville.   Mr. Morrogh withdrew his motion.  Mr. Singleton suggested the Homestead, which is under new ownership.   CASC will investigate all 3 options.

There being no further business before Council, the meeting adjourned at 3:24 p.m.  The next regularly scheduled meeting is August 3, 2013, 8:30 a.m., at the Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach.
